Day trips from the Turtle and Wildlife Conservation project in Costa Rica
Volunteering & Travel Advice / 18 June 2025
Our Turtle and Wildlife Conservation volunteers are based on a stunning coastal wildlife reserve monitoring some of Costa Rica’s endangered animals.
Volunteers have one day off at the weekend where they can make the most of this incredible tropical location.
Whether you want to head out to explore the nearby waterfalls, national parks or relax at a spa, there is so much on offer in the local area. Here are some popular activities to do:
- Visit some beautiful waterfalls – such as Catarata Uvita and Cataratas Nauyaca
- Explore the rainforest from above with zip-lining at Osa Canopy Tour (best to book in advance)
- Whale and dolphin watching boat tours and river kayaking from Uvita
- Head to Playa Ventanas for a day at the beach
- Explore Marino Ballena National Park and see the stunning ‘Whale Tail’ beach at low tide. You may even spot dolphins and humpback whales!
- Visit Uvita's cute local market for handmade goods and foods – Mercado Bahia Ballena
- Relax at Serenidad Yoga and Wellness Centre
You can also take a short walk into the local town of Ojochal to grab a bite to eat at one of the cafes and restaurants. There is even an option to play pickleball or tennis at the raquet club!

We look forward to helping you with your volunteering trip.
