Day trips from the Turtle and Wildlife Conservation project in Costa Rica

Volunteering & Travel Advice / 18 June 2025 Day trips from the Turtle and Wildlife Conservation project in Costa Rica

Our Turtle and Wildlife volunteers are based on a stunning coastal wildlife reserve monitoring some of Costa Rica’s best endangered animals.

At the weekend volunteers have one day off where they can make the most of the incredible tropical location.

Whether you want to head out to explore the nearby waterfalls, national parks or relax at a spa, there is so much on offer in the local area.  Here are some activity options:

  • Visit some refreshing waterfalls – either Catarata Uvita or Cataratas Nauyaca
  • Whale and dolphin watching boat tours from Uvita
  • Explore the rainforest from above at Osa Canopy Tour
  • River kayaking with Eco Aventuras Di Cri
  • Zip-lining
  • Head to Playa Ventanas for a day at the beach where you can also swim
  • Explore Marino Ballena National Park for a stunning beach at low tide where you can maybe even spot dolphins and humpback whales from the shore!
  • Visit beautiful Uvita local market – Mercado Bahia Ballena
  • Relax at Serenidad Yoga and Wellness Centre

Or you may prefer to relax at the wildlife reserve and take the short walk into the local town of Ojochal to grab a bite to eat at one of the cafes and restaurants. There is even an option to play tennis at the tennis club in town!

We look forward to helping you plan your volunteering trip.
